1853: USS Constitution captures the American slave ship H.N. Gabrill about 60 miles South of the Congo River. Constitution is the Commodore Mayo’s African Squadron flagship. This the last prize captured at sea in the Constitution’s long career in our Navy. 1943: USS Oklahoma BB 37 is refloated in Pearl Harbor. She capsized and sank after several torpedo hits during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Dec 7, 1941. The Navy determines she is to old and badly damaged to be year. Olkahoma is sold for scrap the next year.
